Willy
I finally got started covering my vac cart with sheet metal. I not much of a tin bender, but I never let ignorance stop me. I made a vent in the top,I used 1/4" mesh with apiece of window screen in between.I had some alum.channel I placed inside so I could slip the screen in and take it out to clean. I got the front end on and installed a hide em stripe around the edge to cover the sharp edges. Getting ready to cover the back door,I don't like those round corners. All most done I still have to install the latches, and put a collar in the opening for the hose and trim a bunch of bolts hanging down inside. I'll have to check it out to see if I have enough exhaust air vent if not I have a door ready to put in the back door.

FastPaul
Looks very nice Willy. Looks like you have more than stock air flow for a vent, it should work fine. There is some debate on the air flow theory, I bought a brand new cover for mine (to much $$$) I like your idea, looks like it will last a lot longer than the stock cloth cover and you can paint it too, Just not green :Y. What did you make your vent from? Willy here's the post with some of the screen size theory debate. I want to do a test on this subject in the fall http://www.simpletractors.com/club2/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=70472
johnmonkey
A fine fabrication job, looks like it will last a long time. JH
UCD
Here is the rear gate on my Vac cart, it is ¼" mesh, no problem with air flow and you can see at a glance how full it is. It realy packs the leaves in.

Tacey
Very nice work, and pics! Looks like it will work great. I was using my Genuine Simplicity Garden Cart yesterday to haul soil. It is so nice to be able to completely dump that soil exactly where it is needed. Love that design! Tacey
Willy
Thanks for the comments. Maynard, I can see the advantage of the rear screen, but it's quit dusty where I'm at, and maybe if this works I won't have to eat quite so much of it. Paul, in the vent I took 1'4" wire mesh and sandwiched a window screen in between. I put 1/4 x 1"extruded alum around the top of the opening using a sealer under it to try to keep the rain, etc out. So far I have about $53.00 in the project, not counting the pop rivets I already had and about three 10 Hr days. I figure maybe another eight Hrs should do it. MPH
Cool looking job. I like the round corners on top, but, I didn't have to bear the pain of making the front and back to fit 'emsm02. Is the framework conduit?
Willy
Hi Marty The framework is the original tubing that was already on it,I just added the sheet metal.
Willy
I finily finished my lawn vac project. I used a stove pipe to hook the exaust hose to the cart. And suit case fasteners to hold it togather, it also makes it easer to unsnap the hose to dump. Here a picture of it running at about half throttle. The vent only blows open about 2" and works fine I used it tuesday for about three hours,to pick up the little pine needles, and pine cones left from our ice storm,it was quit a mess it cleaned them up just like it should. MPH
"And suit case fasteners to hold it togather, it also makes it easer to unsnap the hose to dump" Love the creative thinking there. Matter of fact, that entire hookup looks like it should work real slick. Sure did a nice job cleaning up the yard, gonna find me one of those up here someday.
