Here are the latest updated on the newly named 6518 IT RUNS! Sorry, but no Action Pictures...sm02 It Smoked a little bit when It first started, but it worked and sounded great! There were a few things I heard though...it would go at a higher RPM, the go down a bit, then back up.... And, I had to keep the choke at a sertian spot or else the engine died out. Could that be from not getting enough gas? And if it is about not getting gas, could it be from the way I ran the fuel line? Thank You! (Old Stuff Past here) I'll say this....Bolting in the 18hp went easier that a knife through butter. (Cold knife) I replaced and ran new feul line. I also added a filter and shutoff valve. I was also able to fix the clearance problem with the brake pedal... Now I have 1/2" clearance at the closest between the 2 parts. First I was helping my friend clean his garage and he gave me a old truck seat. This is what it looks like with it mounted...

Before you all start laughing, It is really comfy and it will be perfect for when I'm up-north at out cabin mowing for 4 hours strait. Here is the engine NEW: This is the "Other" rider. I had to do ALL THIS to get at 4 engine bolts... The one thing that didn't fight bad was the engine. The other pulleys came right off and mine slipped right on. It barely Fits! Well...Almost... The Exaust bracket (Extra scrap) is in the way of the brake. Even though no-one used brakes with a hydro...I sometimes do. It is really starting to shape up!

I for one am not laughing.^ The price was right, and comfort is very important in a seat. Also, that engine is a steal! Carry on!

Mark, There are a few ways you could fix that bracket in the way of your brake pedal. It should be okay, as long as you just cut the piece that protrudes beyond the actual supporting of the muffler. Ways you can get it off: 1) Hack-saw it off. 2) Use an adjusting wrench, adjust until it's on tight and bend it. 3) Use a welder to cut it off. Good luck, you're well on your way!

Mark, That'll work. Anything that can cut metal will work good. Didn't think of that. :) Try your best to keep your hand steady and go slow. (Too much heat can weaken welded spots) If the metal starts to get red, give it time to cool off. :)

Rick, I am really glad that you like what has happened to it so far. It all seems better when the past owner Likes it...unless they like it too much and want it back...pi

Mark, Looks great! That should work nicely. 8D That muffler's right next to your foot, so you might want to consider installing a heat shield to protect your foot and to keep it cool. Either that, or wear a really good pair of shoes. :) Nice job. You're doing better than I did at that age. 8D

Mark, Outstanding conversion. You should be able to mow small trees down with 18 hp. ^ As Erick pointed out I think you may get a hot foot on long mowing jobs.

Something new hit me.... When I repaint the Hood numbers to say 18 and not 16, what can I name it? Call me carzy, but I hope on giving this a name.

Mark, This is probably what you'd need... You could build a metal "wall" that goes over the muffler and line it with this: http://www.heatshieldproducts.com/heat_shield.php Perhaps Something like this diagram: With a vise, a hammer, and patience, you could make it by hand.

On Edit: You may want 3/4" of space between the liner and the muffler. Or you could just put on metal and space it 1/2" away from the muffler, it'll still be hot, but not as hot.

Just got to thinking a cheap metal mail box could be good starting material for a heat shieldsm00

You could name it Alice. I know, lame, but here's my line of thinking. Alice Cooper had a song "I'm 18" and it now has an 18 HP in it. Or maybe I've had too much caffeine.......

Sam,

That's an excellent idea! Just as long as the metal's thick enough. :D8D This type of mailbox would be perfect, actually.

Mark when you get things settled, stop and take off the air shrouds and clean out the grass that trying to get out. It will let your engine run longer.
