Charlieson
What all is involved in converting a varispeed to a straight 3 speed? Im giving serious consideration to making my 3212v to a 3 speed. Belt started slipping again whilst plowing my garden. ddh
ehertzfeld
Not a lot of work involved. I did it a few times now. Just take out the linkage, belt guard and pulleys, then replace them with regular pulleys.
Charlieson
WHat size pulleys?
HubbardRA
Dwayne, If the vari-drive is still working, you can determine what size pulleys would best suit your usage. Find the vari-drive setting that best gears the 3-speed to your personal uses for the tractor. In other words, one that could be used for all uses and never changed. After that, just measure the diameter of the belt in the vari-drive pulleys, and replace with a pulley that size and a belt to match the pulleys. The reason that I suggest this is that, even on the early 3-speeds, there were optional pulleys for the tranny to slow the tractor down for certain applications such as tilling. Robert Kehoe
Are the shafts from the bgb and the rear axel the same size Length and diameter. I would like to do the same thing
Charlieson
It works fine. But I tend to burn the belt up when Im plowing or pulling a lot. Maybe I'll readjust the belt before I start the conversion process. Hate to modify her when shes been factory fresh for 30 + years. sm01
