msasso Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 I just fixed up an old chipper and blew a rod on it right through the case. However, it was a 5HP briggs with a 1"x3" shaft. My over anxious father went out and found another very nice briggs 5hp for $75. Not a bad deal but the shaft is only 3/4"x2 1/4". Does anyone now if i can get a sleeve or something that i can put over the new shaft to make it a 1" keyed shaft.
Morris Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 msasso, What was on the original shaft? A pulley for a belt? If so, you could possibly find the same size pulley that would fit the new engine shaft. A little more info would help.
msasso Posted March 26, 2007 Author Posted March 26, 2007 the shredder/chipper plate mounts directly onto the 1" SHAFT.
Morris Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 Ahhh. That complicates things a bit. I would imagine a competent machine shop could fabricate something like that, but my guess is it wouldn't last too long under that environment, but I'm no expert. If you want it done right, I'd try to swap that motor for one you need that's a precise fit. Just my two cents' worth...
