landlord2110 41 Posted March 27, 2007 Is using 5w-30 oil in the old cast iron engines recomended(summer & winter)? Is using used oil recomended on snow blowers & mowing decks on the inside of housing to keep unit from rusting?
Kent 436 Posted March 27, 2007 Personally, I'd go to straight 30w or 10w40 in the summer. These have splash-lubed engines (non-pressurized) and a bit thicker oil shouldn't drain off quite as fast when its hot and the engine is hot... Anything you can use to prevent/reduce rusting is recommended, IMO... :p
BLT 725 Posted March 27, 2007 Fogging oil works OK on decks and blower housings also and it comes in spray cans.
goatfarmer 817 Posted March 27, 2007 I use 15W40 Rotella in the fleet, summer and winter.
LPH-5 0 Posted March 27, 2007 I use 15w40 Mobil in summer/5w30 or 10w30 winter snow season..
Al 6 Posted March 27, 2007 HI, I think Briggs and Kohler both recommend Straight 30 for Summer except Commands that take 10W-30. Multi grade oil is not as tough (breaks down) in high temps as straight weight. Al Eden
