Is using 5w-30 oil in the old cast iron engines recomended(summer & winter)? Is using used oil recomended on snow blowers & mowing decks on the inside of housing to keep unit from rusting?

Personally, I'd go to straight 30w or 10w40 in the summer. These have splash-lubed engines (non-pressurized) and a bit thicker oil shouldn't drain off quite as fast when its hot and the engine is hot... Anything you can use to prevent/reduce rusting is recommended, IMO... :p

Fogging oil works OK on decks and blower housings also and it comes in spray cans.

HI, I think Briggs and Kohler both recommend Straight 30 for Summer except Commands that take 10W-30. Multi grade oil is not as tough (breaks down) in high temps as straight weight. Al Eden
