Glacier 0 Posted March 27, 2007 Got a pair of these, model # 326437 type 0027-01 code 7710131. Do any of the large frame tractors use these and would it be worth getting them running.
Roy 0 Posted March 27, 2007 No, they are worthless. Send them to me. :D Seriously, a 16 hp Briggs was used in many large frame tractors by AC & Simplicity as the OEM engine. Many also upgrade their smaller engines to a 16 hp. IMHO they are well worth making usable again.
MPH 12 Posted March 27, 2007 Think they are pretty close to a bolt in exchange into any of the tractors with a 12hp and up, maybe even 10hp engine. If you were close to me I'd be right over to take them off your hands. The 1977 I was just working on in a friends gilson with the gear starter also had mounting hole for a S/G so if the starter was a problem for fitting, or one didn't want to rewire the tractor for using it, a S/G could be bolted on. Top one looks to have two bolts right above the starter for that purpose. IMO real nice score.
Glacier 0 Posted March 27, 2007 Mph, they both have mounting holes for s/g just remove the gas tank. There is something I can't figure the motor in the first pic has points and condensor, but no spark. The motor in the second pic has no points or condensor, but I just had it running on the bench, carb needs to be cleaned. What am I overlooking, cause I can't figure it out. I also removed the centrifical clutch to find a shaft extension, with that removed it is a normal front output shaft.
johnmonkey 4 Posted March 27, 2007 Maybe one engine has electonic ignition and the other has points, but is shorted out. Just a thought. Nice engines. JH
JohnFornaro 42 Posted March 27, 2007 I believe the 16HP Briggs is virtually the same size as the 10HPBriggs. It is the cylinder size that is different. I'm hoping to find a 16 to repower my 3310H. I downloaded the Briggs engine diagrams from somewhere, I think the Briggs site, and checked the dimensions on the engine drawings.
RedbarnRick 5 Posted March 27, 2007 The motor with the points if point gap is 010 and no spsrk magnets on flywheel rusty or bad condenser ( I always had trouble with the condensers when it was rainy) ccheck condenser first its a cheap fix
Morris 0 Posted March 27, 2007 I know a backyard mechanic who swears by removing points and just running off magneto alone, and I read some posts in the tech tips section earlier on it, it will work, but coil/spark plug will fire on every revolution as opposed to every other one (points cam runs off camshaft which runs at half-speed of the crankshaft, hence firing every other revolution with everything set up normally. But I agree, replacing condenser is cheap and easy. Points, not as cheap for that model.
