mower deck vibration

I just put the 36" deck on for the first time this year and it has a very noticable intermitent vibration. The vibration "cycles" every 2 seconds or so. It ran smooth at the end of last year. The blades are balanced and the belt is new. The only thing I did to it was pump grease into the grease fittings on the spindles. They spin freely and don't have any slop. I let it run for 5 minutes and the vibration remained. The belt tension looks good. Any Ideas what could be causing this?

My guess is the grease is getting caught on the spindle shaft and causing an out of balance condition. Once it warms up and all the grease settles it should stop. I have seen the same thing on machine spindle bearings after replacement. For what its worth! .02

Watch the belt while the mower is making the vibration. Sometimes, if you use the wrong belt, especially a non-factory belt, the belt itself will have a vibration. This is not due to tension. The design of the belt (materials used, placement of reinforcing fibers, etc.) will actually produce the vibration. That type of vibration will usually go away when the correct factory belt is installed. Just another reason to use Simplicity Belts.

It is most likely the belt from sitting in one spot all winter. Remember tires that got flat spots on them when they set for awhile? Had to drive down the road for awhile till the shaking went away. This to should go away with a little running.

To save a few dollars, I bought a non-factory belt and it does appear that it is the belt that is vibrating. Who would have thought? Lesson learned.
