Simplicity small-frame model 8008?

Recommended Posts

Greetings all, Have an opportunity to pick up a Simplicity with a 36" deck, a tiller, and manuals for a hundred bucks. Been in the fella's family since new. He pulled it into the garage last fall, it quit, and it won't start...he went and bought a new tractor. I haven't looked at it yet but supposedly things are in good shape throughout. Need to go fetch a horse near the tractor in a few days...it's 180 miles each way, so killing two birds with one stone is the prudent thing to do. Anyway, he told me it's a Simplicity 8008 I'm not familiar with an "8008." Is there such a critter? If not, could it be a "4208?" I'm wonderin' if our Homesteader 8 might be similar. We could really use a tiller and a small-deck mower with Simple-quality...for a hundred bucks I figure the worst-case scenario is a new engine and things would still be a decent deal. Any input on the "8008" conundrum? Thanks folks

Maybe a 6008. If so, it's exactly like my 6011 Broadmoor II, which is a good machine. Manufactured around 1977. Beautiful cut quality, reliability, and that Briggs single barely sips the gasoline. I'd like a tiller for mine...(hint, hint) Good luck with it. Tacey

As Tacey said, I'll bet it's a 6008, which is a newer version of the 4108/4208... http://www.simpletractors.com/simplicity/new_in_1978/8_&_11hp.htm

Maybe it's a 3008. Possible that the numbers got worn and he thought the 3s were 8s. Tom

3008 is a rear engine riding mower.

There is a 3005, 3008 which are rear engine riders. A System 3008 Which is a front engine small frame Broadmoor. The Allis Chalmers 808 was the Simplicity Small frame 6108.

Maynard, The System 3008 is to what I was refering to. I didn't think I had to add System to my reply. Most people (who don't collect), if you ask them what model or number their tractor is would only give you the number even if it did say System before the number. I knew what I was talking about since I used to own one. Tom

Well no matter what I do or say It is wrong So I think It is better to say nothing at all on anything. The System designation differentiates between the two styles. I am sorry that that it upset you so much. There is a big difference between 3008 and System 3008. The Question is did you know about the 3008? Most people don't. The same thing comes to mind when a 616 Allis is mentioned. Which one are they talking about, the small frame 616 or the Pow'r Max series 616? Most think it is the compact tractor size Pow'r Max series 616.

The System designation was used for the rear engine riders as well as the front engine rider. Images below are from the cover pages of the Operator's Manuals of two rear engine riders and the front engine rider.

Exactly Maynard. There is a big difference between a rear engine rider and front engine rider. But if you read the original post he describes this "8008" having a tiller. I don't think I have ever seen a rear engine rider with a tiller, have you??????? That is why I suggested it might be a 3008. A 3008 (sorry, System 3008) could use a tiller and the 3 could look like an 8. By the way, not upset at all. Just how you read my post I guess. Tom
