tune-up and wiring questions

Hello, I finally found some time to spend out in the barn today working on my garden tractor. But now I have a few more questions. First off, I have a wiring question. The past two times I've ran my tractor it hasn't shut off with the key... I had to use the fuel cut. So when I was giving it a tune-up today I went looking for the cause. I found a pair of wires with bare ends that aren't connected to anything. One appears to be a white wire (at least on the clean end) and the other is a black looking wire. The black wire comes out of the same place as the wire that's going to the ignition (points and condenser area). I assume that the two wires should be connected because from what I can find, the white wire should go to the ignition system as a ground for turning it off. But I figure it's safer to ask. I'm attaching some pictures at the bottom. Second question, while I was looking around the points area I decided to check the gap but I don't know what it's supposed to be to start with. Does anyone know what the gap for the ignition points should be on an HB-112? Lastly, during my tune-up i found two grease fitting on the front but couldn't find one for the rear axle. I know there is supposed to be one but couldn't find it. I wiped everything down though and found a hole that looks to be about the right size for a grease fitting on the right side of the axle tube. I took a picture of this as well. If it is supposed to be the grease fitting, does anyone know if there is a standard thread size for these? Thanks in advance!! Should this be a grease fitting?

Should I connect the two bare wires?

One of those, maybe both wires, is a ground wire. When I started my 728 up it didn't stop either. I had the ground connected to the frame but it was supposed to be connected to the engine.

There is suppose to be a small terminal block attached to the out side top of the points cover The white wire and the black wire from the coil are supposed to be connected on this terminal block. Part# for the terminal block is Briggs # 66895 insulator

both my tractors have a grease fitting in that hole.

Thanks!! I ordered the insulator I'm missing so I can properly reconnect those wires and got a grease fitting today. While I'm working on the wiring down there... does anyone know what the gap is supposed to be for the breaker points? Thanks! Chris
