Non original colors for a Powermax??

Recommended Posts

This is a question that I have been tossing around for almost a year now. My son is a band member in a large marching band and I may be pulling the instruments and equipment onto the field every home game for the halftime show. I have a Nicely restored powermax that some of you saw last year in the other forum. From 3000 to 5000 people will be there and what a way to show off some Simple history. My Question is this. I am restoring a second Powermax and am seriously considering the school colors of Blue and Gold. Does it really matter what color it is? (Montgomery wards Twin Twenty, Was it Blue and gold or white??) ?) Since it will be a work tractor and not a showpiece , Is that so bad? I could always paint it orange later. Then again I could donate it to the band for the next thirty years. No, that would be like giving a kid away. Please help me with some of your thoughts, Sincerely Ken PS: It will definatly have Simplicity stickers on it, (I have a lot of John Deere fans around here and I am very proud of old orange tractors)

When I started to read this post, I was thinking " What is the big deal paint it whatever color you want !!" Then I saw the picture and I thought You can not vandalish such a nice looking tractor. Now I can understand your problem. I vote to leave it original. now if original is Twin twenty colors, Allis 720 colors or Simplicity colors would be your choice. I see why you can not decide.

My vote is for keeping the original colors. But, it's your tractor so make yourself happy.

If I'm understanding you correctly, you are restoring a Twin Twenty. Due to the rarity of such an animal, I'd stick with original colors and decals. If it's a Simplicity, there's enough of those around that you could play with whatever colors you desire. JMHO.

Very nicely done P'Max. On the second one you are restoring, the school colors is a neat idea. Great way to show off Simplicity and support the band. Like you comment, can always change back to original colors later.

Ken I have seen your group of kids in the shop. I think if you want to honor your school [children] for a time with them in school a differant color would be fine.^ The only thing is to get it back to the right one some day.:D Make your self happy it is yours.{} JUST SO IT IS NOTsm06:Y

Judging from the high quality job you did on your Powermax I believe you would have a very nice looking tractor if you painted it as a Twin Twenty. I like to see the different tractors and this would be one. Here are a few pics I have of someones Montgomery Wards.

Sounds like a great way to support the kids/school. If you paint the chassis blue (Wards), and the hood gold; you would only have to repaint hood later.

I like the twin twenty idea, do the chassis blue and the hood gold, to make it easier to change back to white. JH

You did a nice job on the first one and the Wards looks good in blue and white so why not blue and gold. Would like to see pics when you are done.

As a past band Dad I totally understand what you want to do. I think it is a great idea and would not hurt a thing. Its only paint after all.

I'd go with Twin Twenty colors. You could use removable vinyl graphics to highlight school colors, or mascot etc. Later on remove the graphics and your back to original.

THANK you all for your thoughts and sorry about the delay in getting back here. I really like the Ideas and pictures. I am leaning towards doing this tractor as a Blue and White Twin twenty. BUT getting an extra hood and doing the school color and logos on it. That way, Change two bolts on Game day or parade day and Its done. I'll get the pictures posted when I,m done.. Thanks again, Ken

Looking at your sons shirt I thought of the 75th anniversary Soveriegn the color scheme seems right, I know you would never have trouble selling it if it turns out even half as nice as the P-max pictured
