Gary 101 Posted March 31, 2007 I hate asking this question...but here goes. I found a 1920 Deutz Ultima, today, at a John Deere dealer. It is in good condition. It has 1100 hrs. on the meter, purrs like a kitten, has power steering, and the sheet metal is all there and straight. He said he just put a new electric clutch in it, cost him $400.00. He has to have $850.00 for it. It also has a 48" deck, not the 60". From what I've seen here, and on e-bay, the price seems pretty reasonable. I'm just not that familiar with this style of tractor. Any help/insight, would be much appreciated.
CarlH 436 Posted March 31, 2007 Sounds OK to me if the engine isn't using oil. You should check to see what sort of shape the front end is in. Lack of proper maintenance there may require some $$.
ambler 0 Posted March 31, 2007 It will spoil you for the old stuff. How much ground do you have to care for?
Gary 101 Posted March 31, 2007 I mow just an acre, plus snow removal in the winter. Guess I'd be stuck with a 48", 2 stage, blower, if I get this tractor. Are blowers for these units hard to come by?
CarlH 436 Posted March 31, 2007 There is also a 42" single stage snowblower available. I recently bought one on eBay for ~$100. This is probably the right time to buy, others had been going for around $300. I had been looking for about a year.
AC_TOY_BOY 8 Posted March 31, 2007 Gary, I have a 1991 D-A 1920 with a 48" deck and it works great and I have had little trouble with it. If you do regular maintenance and take care of it, it will take care of you.The Simplicity Sunstar, Deutz Allis 1920 and Massey Ferguson 2900 are identical except for name and colour, Simplicity did a great job and these are dependable tractors. Gary 101 Posted April 1, 2007 Thanks for the input. I'm going to have to give it a good going over, and make a decision.
ambler 0 Posted April 4, 2007 Carl was that 100 for a sunstar blower? The ultima will cut your yard in a 1/2 hour with a 48". They are faster than the others. Jump on it 1000-1500 is normal price right now.
CarlH 436 Posted April 5, 2007 Ambler, Yes, it was for a Sunstar.

Gary 101 Posted April 6, 2007 If I end up buying this Deutz Ultima...it's just going to have to be painted Orange:D Anyone in the know, knows Green can't mow!

ikipp 0 Posted April 6, 2007 Sound like a real good price after looking on ebay. I use a 4041 and a sunstar to do my grass and snow. The 4041 is a better machine. Much more rugged and feels a lot more powerful and prettier. But the sunstar does a good job too. Its kinda a horse apiece for doing a small yard or driveway. For bigger jobs I like the feel of the 4041. If feels, looks and is much more of a tractor. Sunstar is a little mousy looking. Any way thats how I see it.
