SmilinSam 4,165 Posted April 1, 2007 Looking at a Massey version of the Lanlord with the Liquid cooled Kawasaki. Are these engines any good? Any troubles with these? This one is a 2001 model. How are these tractors on resale value compared to the Vanguard air cooled units? RayS 80 Posted April 1, 2007 I have a friend that has a liquid cooled Kawasaki on a Scag mower and he hasn`t had problems. He mows for a living.
Tacey 0 Posted April 1, 2007 I had a Landlord built around 1998 with the liquid-cooled Kawasaki 17-horse twin, hydro tranny. I was the third owner, I believe. I liked how the tractor cut, of course (it also had the turbo grass collection system, with the electric PTO), and it ran quiet. I had an issue with the fuel system, though. First, it used a lot of gas, probably twice what my Broadmoor uses. And second, I had to have my local dealer figure out a stalling problem that developed. The problem ended up being a dirty carb. For what it's worth, that same Kaw engine is used on some Deere models. Tacey
SmilinSam 4,165 Posted April 1, 2007 What type of Broadmoor are you referring to in comparrison?
patrician12 0 Posted April 1, 2007 If the watercooled is like my 23hp air cooled it runs great except the slightest dirt in the carb will knock it out.I remedied this by running 2 gas filters. It runs smooth and quiet and is powerful as all locomotive,Never breaks a sweat. SmilinSam 4,165 Posted April 1, 2007 I figured that. The 10 and 11 HP L head engines I have here run a lot longer long on the same gas as the new V twin Vanguards. I wonder if a guy could put a block heater in one of these Kawasaki's for warming it up in the winter prior to use?
Roy 0 Posted April 1, 2007 "The 10 and 11 HP L head engines I have here run a lot longer long on the same gas as the new V twin Vanguards." Simple equation: More hp = more fuel. But, the extra power sure is nice.

andrewk 0 Posted April 2, 2007 They are very reliable, from what I have seen. I have worked on that same series of engine in Deere's and in the Simplicity/AGCO, and they are very nice. Water pumps are a hassle to replace, but they are reliable. They can overheat if the grass screen gets plugged, but if you keep em pretty clean, they work well. Resale value is generally higher than the air cooled units. It was probably a 7000 dollar tractor new.
RedbarnRick 5 Posted April 2, 2007 I have a 98 Agco-Allis 1700 (landlord) 17 hp liquid cooled and it's been great, on rare occasions I wish it had a little more horsepower, but I probably use it harder than most people would. In comparison to my Soveriegns, or the 738 this thing rides like a Cadillac and it mows just like a Simplicity should.
