AllisPhreak 0 Posted April 3, 2007 For those far more knowlegable than I : I have a chance to get my hot little paws on a 5 speed Spicer transaxle, brand new with warranty for $149. The transaxle looks to identical in every way to my peerless 801 series, of which I cannot even find used, and new costs over $500. My question is, will this Spicer model 4360-149 work on my Allis 616, if the output shaft are the same size ? What would be the differences, and is it possible to overcome them ? HubbardRA 19 Posted April 3, 2007 My philosophy: If my eyes and a tapemeasure can't determine a difference, then I would use it. Many of those boxstore tractors will use several different trannys, and most have essentially a standard mount.
AllisPhreak 0 Posted April 3, 2007 LOL. Yea, I know, but reading the repair manual for my peerless transaxle, I notice that some models of the peerless 801's have the input shaft that are on either side the bevel gear that drives the differential. Which would mean, I assume....that if the input shaft of the Spicer trans is on the side of the bevel gear opposite that of the Peerless 801, the operation of the transaxle would be pecisely opposite that of the Peerless. In other words, 5 crazy fast reverse gears, and one very slow forward speed. Am I correct ?
UCD 14 Posted April 3, 2007 Reverse the twist in the belt. That is what happens when the belt is installed wrong. 5 crazy fast reverse gears, and one very slow forward speed
firefoxz1 4 Posted April 3, 2007 Like Rod said most transaxle have the mounting holes to mount to any tractor. Yours is a vertical engine to a vertical input transaxle so I doubt it would be reversed and as long as you can use your pulley it should work. Main concern I would have is the shifter mount/connection. Another concern would be axle length and diameter.
