wminmi
seeing how everybody likes pix: Shoehorned in the 12hp briggs from my B-12, since it was just sitting there, doing nothing. That, and i have a 16hp briggs that will be going into the B-12. Got it running, now need to remember how the throttle linkage went, and adjust the carb some more, then on to modifying the hood to clear it :D UPDATE: Got the hood on there.....NO MODIFICATIONS! :D Granted, the hood was contacting the S/G bracket and one of the terminals on the S/G, but a slight "bend" seems to have fixed that. Also, the output shaft on the front isn't quite centered anymore, but it doesn't rub at all. Last pic shows her running.....still needs some final tuning but otherwise i now have AG tracks in the yard }:)
Killer_A-C
Should be a big difference from the 7HP. Looks good,Matt
wminmi
Thanx, should be a "beast" as the 7hp did pretty good until it developed a rod knock :(
johnmonkey
Great job, Rod H modified a hood, I know he has some insight to how it was done. JH
Roy
Did you raise the engine or cut a hole in the frame to clear the blower housing? If the engine isn't raised the hood may fit fine w/o modification.
wminmi
yeah, Rod modified his hood, i've got some pix of it somewhere. I notched the frame on this one, not sure if the hood will close/fit or not just yet. I do know the 12hp is almost 2" taller than the 7hp, but we shall see tomorrow, as i plan to button everything up if possible. Vacation time is great :D

wminmi
i'm hoping to make it look as "original" as i can, but i haven't even tried it yet.....hoping to start on it today matter of fact

comet66
Looks like they were made for each other. I'd think about some support for that stack though, to get the weight off the threads on the head. They have been known to break right out of the head.

Roy
"If the engine isn't raised the hood may fit fine w/o modification." "Got the hood on there.....NO MODIFICATIONS!" Confirms my supposition. :) Congratulations on a successful transplant. ^

I think the reason Rod had to modify his hood is because the Kohler engine is taller than the briggs by an inch or so. I didn't get out the tape measure or anything, but i had the 14hp kohler sitting next to the 12hp briggs, and you could tell just by looking at it that the kohler was 1.5 to 2" taller than the briggs
Ketchamized
William, It looks like it turned out better than expected. It looks original. Nicely done. One of these days, I'll have to check it out. :D

HubbardRA
Been so long, that I don't remember whether I had to do anything much with the 10 Hp B/S that I first had in the 61 Wards. I think that I elongated the mounting holes slightly to be able to center the grille hole around the shaft. With the 12 Hp Kohler, that had the extra ducting on the engine, I moved the grille to mate with the ductwork and get more heat out from under the hood. The 14 Hp Kohler has plenty of room around it with the new hood mounting that was worked up for the 12 Kohler.
