blackfarms1 0 Posted April 5, 2007 Looking to buy a rear blade for driveway and landscaping. Leaning toward the IMF blade who had an ad on the site. Question for all you powermax guys is this. What width of blade would you choose and why? 48", 54", or 60"? As always thanks in advance. Sean
comet66 0 Posted April 5, 2007 It's best to get a blade that is wider than your tires. That way you can cut right out to the edge, or up to something.
D-17_Dave 12 Posted April 5, 2007 When your cutting in the ground it's best to have a small contact point so the weight is applied to as small a surface contact area. The rear blade I made several years ago for my Economy tractor is 42" wide and works well. The other implements I've made such as box blade and yard tool are 60" wide and I'm very pleased with them. The tarctor has enough weight to handle moving that much loose dirt/rock/etc. as long as it's broken up already.
MPH 12 Posted April 5, 2007 I agree with John, least as wide as the tires and I'll add, wider when at max angle. On a PowerMax, think you need 60 inches for that, depending on your degree of angle of course.
RodStayner 0 Posted April 7, 2007 Sean- I used a 60" blade on the 4040 you bought from me and it worked fine! I mainly used it for snow...though I did do some dirt work with it. Rodney
