wminmi 0 Posted April 7, 2007 Picked up an old John Deere 826 snowblower that has an 8hp Tecumseh engine on it. It needs a carb kit, but there are 2 kits listed, one for a certain engine model and one for another. For the life of me, i cannot find a model number on the engine anywhere :(! Anybody that knows these engines, is there a spot i maybe overlooking?
andrewk 0 Posted April 7, 2007 If there is a bracket bolted to the top of the shroud, try removing that, and the model number might be under there. It could also be on the side of the shroud. For whatever reason, some of the snow engines have that bracket, and Tecumseh didn't change the stamping location for awhile. My guess is that it is an HM80, and one of the kits might be for a snow engine, or high altitude, not sure. That Deere should blow some snow if/when you get it going. Hope this helps, Andrew
wminmi 0 Posted April 8, 2007 morning Andrew ~ Yes, it is an HM80, or so the manual says that's what it is. The previous owner kept VERY good records of all maintenance on this thing, and has almost everything written down, except the engine numbers i need B) On top of the engine shroud, it has the 110v starter plug-in. I'll check under there today and see what i can find. I'll also grab a few pix of it as everybody loves pix, even if they are of a "green machine"
andrewk 0 Posted April 8, 2007 Morning wminmi, I'll put my money on it being under that plug.
BLT 725 Posted April 8, 2007 quote:Originally posted by andrewk Morning wminmi, I'll put my money on it being under that plug. Don't bet!!!! Also take a good stiff wire brush to get after metal stamp marks. It wasn't one of Tecumseh's better udeas to put engine markings on top of shroud and then cover it up with plug. Turns out to be rust magnet. Addition 04/08/07---- I forgo, I have a yellow TEC out of JD 826. "HM80 Spec 155013F". There is also a similar Craftsman brand TEC "143.696092" that uses same carb 632111 and with give you an illustrated parts list.
