D-boy Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 Can anyone tell me what kind of engine swaps they have tried on these and which one would be the best engine. The old Kholer engine is tired and every one I have talked to around here hasn't had good luck rebuilding them and holding together very long.
Paul_B Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 I put a 16HP single briggs in my 917 and love it. Lots of power and easy on gas.
D-boy Posted April 11, 2007 Author Posted April 11, 2007 Thanks, I was leaning towards the briggs but I didn't know which size or style would bolt in better.?

D-boy Posted April 11, 2007 Author Posted April 11, 2007 Thanks I appreciate all the help I can get and all of you have been very helpful. Hope to pick your brains some more in the future.
RedbarnRick Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 If you swap in a Briggs you'll need a different driveshaft, I have several, and you can sell the kohler one.
andrewk Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 And I think you also need to change key switches.

Paul_B Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 When I swapped in the briggs, I used a wiring harness from the donor 16hp briggs tractor (3416H). I used a S/G style charging/starting system so I also had to mount the regulator. The kohler driveshaft was about an inch too short so I made some spacers to make up the difference.
