power stearing pumps for hydraulics

i read on another garden tractor site about people using power stearing pumps and cylinders off old cars for hydraulic units on their garden tractors. has anybody done this and if yes what type should one use and off what year, make, and model of car. how well do they work and do they have enough power? the reason im asking is i am thinking of building some hydraulic attachments for my 63 b10 that might be alittle heavy and don't want to take the chance of burning out the original ac pump i have - thanks

The orig AC pump is STRONG enough, believe me as I have a scoop bucket hooked up to one and it'll pick up 3 FULL FIGURED! adults no problem![However to do that the pump press relief valve has to be modified] as in stock configuration it won't.Any car pump such as a GM or Ford would work fine hooked up to the PTO shaft of the eng.
