Its been awhile since ive been on here. So as ive been saving money for another simplicity i picked up a B165 Wheel Horse witha 18 horse twin cyl briggs. My problem is it wont do anything when i hit the key. The ignition switch, starter, solenoid is good. But it also has a ignition box. I can get it to turn over when i jump the solenoid. So i would guess that the ignition box is bad. Whats everyone else think?

I would check the safety interlock switches. Neutral safety switch and others if it has them. If any are bad or corroded it won`t start. If it will turn over when you jump the solenoid more than likely that is the problem. You can also unhook the 12 guage wire on the small post of the solenoid and hook a jumper wire from there to the accessory terminal on the key switch (I believe it is the accessory terminal) and that will bypass the interlock switches. I would have to check my 917H to verify that it is the accessory terminal but this is what I have done to a couple of my tractors to avoid the interlock switches.

I forgot to mention those switches. I took wires off those switches and jumped with a wire connected to them to make them a straight circuit and it still wont start. So i am still assuming its the ignition box.

Is the in line fuse that is connected to the ammeter blown. That will cause it not to turn over as well. If it has points that are bad that would not prevent it from turning over. I would also check all wires for corrosion and contentunity.

The fuse is good. I dont know if it has points or not. I can look when i go back in the garage later. I have got to get this running by Monday. I just picked up a new account, i am suppose to cut monday.

Go at it systematically. Check all your battery connections first, on both ends. If you don't have a decent ground, it won't go. Visual inspection is not enough for this, you need to take them apart and clean them. I use grease on all battery hardware, to prevent corrosion. After you ensure that you have good connections at the battery, follow the power path through the system. You will have to run into the problem this way. Everything can't be good, since it won't start. Assuming its the ignition box (don't know what you mean by that) without verifying it is just shooting in the dark. Hope this helps you- Andy

Have you checked to see if your getting power on the small wire to the seleniod? If it turns over when you jump the seliniod, that doesn't mean the seleniod is working. you should hear a click when you turn the key to the start postion. The seleniod should go from being an open ciruit to a short across the two large posts when you turn the key on
