Pix of our "new" 4212

Notice the new belts on the seat - These were both installed successfully, and it works GREAT! Just added gas, and it cuts perfectly, brakes work now too. Air filter & oil change/sparkplug etc. are next, then sand & paint the front bumper and spray the grill black with rustoleum. The headlights don't work, and the wiring looks ok, so bulbs are probably out. That new manual really came in handy. I still can't believe it was only $160. delivered!! Happy happy....:D8D^sm01yellsm06sm044ism00:D8D (Stay tuned for pix of the new engine, forgot to take some)

Looks good. Before you buy new head lights, check the plug in back of the bulb could be a corroded connection, and ck the bulb for continuity. A bad connection is more often the problem.

Thanks, it seems like a real solid machine. We'll check the connection again, but he said it looked ok, the engine was running at the time & it was a brief inspection. I saw something under the middle part, a short wire sticking out with prong connectors. I'm wondering if that's the light wire from the battery..? I was ready to ride & cut grass, or we would've checked better. I had to stop cause the dust got so bad, didn't have a mask.. hasn't rained in a while. Also noticed it was loud, even tho the engine is labeled "Quiet-Something" - does anyone know of some good hearing protection headphones with music capability? I heard Panasonic makes a good noise canceling set (for the price, about $40.) but not sure if they're meant for lawn mowers.

Not sure, I'll check tomorrow. The front ones are six / 15. It rides fine, but I've also seen bigger tires on the back of some Simplicitys. Maybe the 4212 is a smaller more light duty..?

That tractor should have bigger rims on it, but I am sure it will be fine for mowing. Not sure what the panasonic muffs are, but Stihl just came out with a set that has something that 30db reduction, with an am/fm tuner in them. I think the price was 50-60 bucks, I can get you the actual list price if you are interested, or your local dealer should have them. If they are just noise canceling headphones, they wont work that well, IMO. Those are better suited for a conversation filled room, not something as agressive sounding as a lawnmower.

Didn't get a chance to check the tire size, but will tomorrow. Is it better to have bigger tires? I guess it is, but if it doesn't hurt anything, these seem to do fine, and they look new too. The front ones have some cracking, so will probably replace them first. What's the advantage? It's pretty flat around here. Mark, we might consider those off your 5116 later on, if you still have them. There's about 4 projects going on all at once around here, just moved recently too. Can you post a picture? Regarding the headphones, Stihl makes chain saws of course, so would be a much better choice, thanks for that info, AK. I think the Panasonics are only -15 db, so you're right. I was hoping for an MP3 set, but will look around. What's a good mask? I'm looking at those white painter's masks at Lowes..?

not sure on this, but i would think that too small a tire (smaller than stock) would effect deck height or the deck being level. I could be wrong though..... And you're right, both the rear rims & tires look brand new

I used to be into Craftsman tractors. (Not anymore! :D) But, they look like to be originally Craftsman tires and rims (Craftsman color, tread style, stamp style, and that one small hole next to the hub). It's much cheaper cost-wise to buy Craftsman rim/tires as a set than to buy Simplicity tires/rim. So, that might explain why they're on your tractor. P.S. If it mows well, and you're not concerned about 100% originality, then I wouldn't worry about the size. :) If you were just interested in tweaking it a little to make it look good, you could always get a set of front Craftsman tires to match the ones in the back. Would be around $50-$70 on eBay for brand new set for the front tires & rims.

Sorry to keep you guys in suspense about the rear tire size, but I never got out of the house today (with another project) but will post it for sure tomorrow, Godwillin' and the creek don't rise! I would change the tire out if it was a problem, but will leave it alone if it works ok. It seems smooth enough, and the cut looks even. Yeah, Craftman is an ok company, but Simplicity is #1 to me too. They made pretty good tools back when.

No Rain for over a month and the grass just isn't growing. sm02 I have the masks and the 4212 runs great, just no GRASS to cut!!! It's all short & brown. Next time I use it I'll be sure to send a few pics of the engine.
