dav 2 Posted April 15, 2007 i finally got a cylinder hone to break the glaze on the spare motor for the Big Ten. it's a 23D motor that i have been lugging around 'just in case' i had done a visual inspection and had put verniers to the top of the bore so i could order rings. the bore looked good and it can use standard rings. however, after running the hone thru the cylinder, a few slight scores in the wall became visible, along with wear at the top and bottom of the bore from ring bounce. not enough wear to catch a fingernail on but still visible i am wondering at the approximate cost of having the cylinder bored and whether i would be best off taking it to the mower shop or an automotive shop. although this is a spare and being done on a tight cash flow, i'd like to do it right. comments would be appreciated
