right tiller for a T16H?

Recommended Posts

DMedal
I've got a T16H I need a tiller for. This is a Simplicity manufactured Homelite, not Allis. I've been using the 7016 parts and owners manual without noticing anything different except headlights and stuff like that. (front clutch too, I guess) so I'd assumed any tiller that works with a 7016 would work. Sandy Lake says no, that the Homelite tiller drive is different than a Simplity. Can anyone help with what tillers will fit a T16H? I'm in northern MN, halfway between MPH and what one might consider a reasonable climate so have a little time yet to solve this problem. thanks, -Don

Even for your snow peas Marty? ;) Don, I think there must have been a little confusion. I have a Simplicity built T-10 and I use the same tiller I use on my 716, 7018, 914 and 917. That Allis built Homelites were different, but to my knowledge, the Simplicity built are the same.

Thanks, Pat. That was my understanding. Now I just have to find one that won't break the bank. -Don

Don, My 713S is built with many parts from a T13S. The tractors were identical. In fact, I am using the tranny and hitch from the T13. It is the very same design as the one that came from the factory on my 716H. The T13 was Simplicity built. In fact, the original hood from this T13 is on a 710 owned by johnmonkey. He is the one who gave me the T13 parts.

The Tillers are the same except for the mounting and lifting hardware noted below. The hitches were different between Simplicity, Allis Chalmers and Homelite at the time to prevent interchangeability of attachments per Federal trade regulations at the time.

Maynard, do you know if this applies to all Homelite tractors, or just the Allis built Homelites? My Simplicity built T-10 has the round lift and the same lower hitch spacing, but that may have been changed by a previous owner. The Allis built T-16S that I sold to my neighbor has the rectangular upper lift link and the wider lower hitch spacing. I kept the tiller from that tractor and reworked the mounting to fit my 914. It was pretty simple.

The manual I got the info for the above is for the Simplicity built tractors and It was my understanding that it applied to all of the Simplicity/Allis Chalmers built tractors at the time 1971/74.

If that's the case, mine may have been changed over. Don, is the reciever for the upper lift link on your T-16 square (actually rectangular as I believe it was 1" X 1 1/8" or 1 1/4"), or is it round? What is the lower hitch spacing? On edit: Whoops! Just caught something here that may provide a clue, Maynard. Weren't 1971 through 1974 the years of the 300 and 400 series Allis? Weren't the Homelites of those years built by Allis, and then switched to Simplicity at the same time as the Allis 700 series came out? Or am I mistaken?

Pat It is a very gray area, As for the time line of the switch or overlap I am unsure. The manual I got the info from is A HomeLite manual for the Simplicity tractors. I have (I think) all of the Homelite manuals Simplicity has on line and can't find any different info. Needless to say there is the potential of a difference and if people are aware of the difference and the Simplicity (pun intended) of the changes needed to make them fit they should not have a problem. These links might help some Homelite to Simplicity Cross Reference http://www.simpletractors.com/homelite/x-reference.htm Homelite to Simplicity Cross Reference ROTARY TILLERS http://www.simpletractors.com/homelite/H_S_

ok, here's my hitch. I don't have the lift cable attached yet but I think you can see the operative parts. it is 6 1/2 " more or less apart at the bottom.

I have a Homelite tiller that will fit my AC712 except for the SQUARE hitch. Otherwise it is just like the AC/Simplicity tillers. I would sell it if you are interested in paying for it plus shipping from zip 69361. It is blue and would match your tractor:) PM me if you want more info. I am just keeping it for parts if my AC tiller needs repairs. Also have the sister snow blower in Homelite blue. Dan aka IronPony

Don, it appears that you can use any of the Simplicity 36" tillers from MFG# 990503 thru 1690039.

The Wider hitch and square bar lift was made for the ALlis Built Homelites from 71-73 . Somewhere in the half year production in 1973 they switched to the Simplicity hitch spacing and round rod lift. This I am 100% sure of. The Simplicity Made Homelites then continued on with the same Simplicity hitch spacing and round lift rods. Also Prior to the Simplicity built Homelites the AC built tractors used tillers with the U shaped engagment lever on top of the tiller like the 3200 and 3300 series Simplicity tractors used. The Simplicity made ones used the same tiller as the 3400 and 7000 series used relying on the tractors cone clutch to operate.
