Roller thoughts

Big Ten did it's first piece of work today, Pulled this roller about 75 feetsm01

Has iron bars welded to the drum, the asphalt contractor I scronged it off of attempted to make a rummble bar, like on the edge of the roads, roller out of it, didn't work so he was glad to get rid of it. I plan on grinding the welds to get them off. As I have this shaker mounted on an old ditchwich I pulled home for the starter off the Onan engine,

thinking maybe of mounting it on the roller and using an 8 horse briggs I have sitting on a sears tiller to power it. Thinking it would have to be mounted on rubber shocks so as not to shake it death. Another concern is how much vibration would come though the hitch into the tractor. Any thoughts could be helpfull, this was today's brainstorm:O Gotta fix my sickle and go through this new 40 year tiller first

for what it is worth i mounted a 6 hp tecumseh on my tiller yesterday. i used some polyurethane bushings under engine and connected up the belt with an idler pulley setup on engine that i robbed off an old snowblower.

I don't know about a shaker on a lawn roller but it would be nice to pack a gravel driveway with.

Driveway is what I have in mind, my lawn gets plenty packed under 6 months of snow. Ground that I fall plow is hard as a concrete slab come spring.

Marty- Correct me if I'm wrong, the ditchwitch is a virbra plow device, yes? here's where I think you have a problem: compare the weight of the original plow with the weight of the roller. to be effective the motor and wiggling mechanism has to shake that mass for either application. But with the differences in weight I am concerned you're just going to make the roller make some noise and feel good. Perhaps if you had a lighter weight sled or drag thingie the vibrator could shake? The vibe mechanism in a vibrating roller is a pretty heavy unit. On The Other Hand, even in failure it would be a pretty cool tool. -Don

Thats an easy fix. Blow the snow from the plowed land to the driveway, Then your driveway would be as hard as concrete. :D:D:D That way you still get winter tractor time. It might make to hard to get out of the drive but you've been driving in snow for quite awhile so you should be ok.

The ditchwitch was a cable trenching device. Came with a big 'knife' that wieghs about too much to lift by hand, without going to look at it, I say about 3 foot long, guessing the shaker helped it move through rock? Have never worked with such equipment and what I've been around it being done paid attention about like 'man, that's cool'. Keeping my eyes out for another one like it as I would then have two of the hydraulic drive units which = center pivot 4 wheel drive garden tractorsm01
