B.Ikard 2 Posted April 19, 2007 Gents, I have a ac/dc battery charging stator (under flywheel mounting) that I need some help on identifying. It was removed from a 16 hp Briggs powered Gravely tractor. This stator has windings a full 360 degrees, unlike AC or DC only. The stator has a white colored AC tap, and a standard fuse holder end for the DC. Unfortunately that is all I have to go on... I was wondering if this system requires the regulator module, or is like the dual circuit and I just need to add a diode/rectifier? Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated, Brent
Roy 0 Posted April 19, 2007 Brent, Cannot remember when I saw it (maybe the B & S web site) but there is a chart with pictures and colors that show all the stators, connectors, and wire colors so their output amps and whether they AC, DC, or AC & DC. Very handy chart. Is how I identified the motor in my B-1 as having a 3 amp DC output. Will see if I can find it again. Meanwhile, I'm sure there is someone in the Club who can steer you to it. B.Ikard 2 Posted April 19, 2007 I found it-I am guessing I have a dual circit but no direct visiual matches. http://www.briggsandstratton.com/miscpdfs/RNT/alternator_replacement.pdf
BLT 725 Posted April 19, 2007 If it is a red wire that usually is 3 AMP DC and 12V 20 watts A-C for lights only. Your engine is probably to old for the book.
gregc 3 Posted April 19, 2007 If the engine is a 326400 series with dual circuit alternator (one red lead one white lead) this should help. Look at the dual circuit alternator part no. 474B in this IPL: http://www.odref.com/briggsandstratton/model-32/326400-ms6179-0302.pdf I don't think the 7 1/2 amp fuse will fit in the holder with the rectifier. May need another holder to add the fuse.
