BruceF 0 Posted April 20, 2007 This past winter the bevel gear box went out of my B1 loader tractor. Thought this would be a good time to make my loader tractor a hydrostatic drive instead of the three speed. Please keep in mind I am doing this for function and not looks. The tractor can be put back to original if and when needed. Here is the tractor. Here is the woodpile I need to get moved. You can see the tractor behind all the wood. Here is the donor hydro. It was a 914 that the engine had blown so the previous owner cut the tractor in half and hauled it to the scrap yard my brother works at. He saved this part of the tractor and I bought it from him. 914 stripped down. Here you can see the bracing I had on the bevel box on the loader tractor. Here is the start of the tear down. Here is a good puller for taking off the steering wheel. Brand named “Posi-Lock”. Really nice pullers. Hard to see but this might be part of the reason the gears went out of the bevel box. The setscrew had come out, letting the drive shaft arbor rock back and forth and bending the key and widening the key slot. Here the tractor is split. Here the hydro is bolted to the tractor. Here are the linkages I hooked up. Used the original B1 brake rod, had to rebend it to work. The hydro forward/reverse rod is hooked to the manual lift rockshaft and manual lever. Had to put a couple of bends in the flat part of this linkage also. As this is a dedicated loader tractor I wasn’t using the lift lever for anything anyway. Going back together. Back together along with a seat deck and seat from a parts B210 I had. So far looks like it’s going to work out fine. I still need to reinforce the bevel box area again. Also still need to come up with a neutral stop for the lift lever. Will also have to get counter weight back on and will have to get chains on or Ag tires for traction. The little bit I drove it around tonight I could barely get anywhere with just the turf tires and my wet yard.
MPH 12 Posted April 20, 2007 Neat project, a B-1H. Have you thought about makeing it a foot control hydro for loader work?
Roy 0 Posted April 21, 2007 Nice. ^ If you have another back half of a hydro tractor I'll take it. :D
BruceF 0 Posted April 21, 2007 Marty, I had thought about making it foot control for the hydro but this was easier and faster to put together. Only took a few hours to put together . sm04 Need to get all that wood moved out of the way. :D
toad270 15 Posted April 21, 2007 Is there any way you could use the original seat pan that would make it look stock you might have to mix the plates that the seat pan hooks to. But COOL project
UCD 14 Posted April 21, 2007 B1 seat pan is 4" short.
BruceF 0 Posted April 21, 2007 Todd, Maynard is right. The seat pan was too short. I would have had rotating pulleys right under my legs. OO I did set it on there to see how it would have fit but was more looking at making it functional as soon as possible. May try to get it to fit on there with some extensions or something later. Need to get woodpile moved first. :D
ehertzfeld 1 Posted April 21, 2007 To get the seat pan on, I would first swap the rear seat support/rear hitch uprights, then go from there.
EricD 0 Posted April 21, 2007 Nice project looks good too. If you're using the loader to move all taht wood you'll certainly be geting some behind the wheel time...

BruceF 0 Posted April 23, 2007 Here is a link to a short video of tractor in action. A little over a minute long. http://s150.photobucket.com/albums/s91/dcso3096/?action=view¤t=wood.flv
Morris 0 Posted April 23, 2007 Nice video, and nice tractors I saw as you turned through the yard. Great job on the swap.
BruceF 0 Posted April 23, 2007 Found a good parking brake. :D Just stick the forks in the ground. Works good as I don't have a neutral detent yet for the hydro lever. Got the woodpile all moved. Now if anyone feels ambitious they can come and help me split it all. ;) :D
