i have a 616 that was rebuil(the whole 9 yards) and it is still running very rough and sometimes stalls when it gets hot. this is the same thing it did prior to the rebuild. does anyone have any advice? it has a new fuel pump and a different carb, it seems to vapor lock. the exhaust gets so hot that it will melt the battery unless covered with a board. it has been setting for a couple of years since i can't figure out the problem. it starts and runs perfect until it is hot.the engine is an ccka series onan

the exhaust on these always makes the battery to warm if you do not have a shield. that said you might have a mouse nest or something like it restricting the air flow. lean air/fuel ratio will make them warm and try checking the points and timing. simple things first

Had a similiar problem on my 4040 when I was getting it going several years ago, problem turned out to be the niffity little ceramic fuel fileter I put on it. Replaced with a clear auto type filter and been fine ever since.

I know you said the shields are all in place but are the shields on top of the engine around the carb still there? Is the rubber boot that fits between the carb and hood still there?
