Fuse should be behind Fuel tank in wire from solenoid to ampmeter. Very likely blown.

Wire might have fallen off the amp. guage also. This has happened to me.

3400 series tractors have a circuit breaker in wire from voltage regulator to ignition switch that resets in about a minute if tripped. The also have no ammeter unless one has been added. Trouble could be bad ignition switch, bad connections at start terminal on ign. switch and/or solenoid or bad solenoid. The transmission should hold about 2 1/4 qts.

I had something similar happen to one of mine. Turned out to be solenoid. Try jumping a wire from positive terminal of battery to the small terminal at bottom of solenoid. If motor turns over, you have a wiring problem (wire, switch, safety switch, fuse/circuit breaker, etc.). If it doesn't turn over, it's probably the solenoid itself. There is no rhyme or reason as to why or when they go bad, they just do. Also, double check to make sure you have a good ground. Any chance when you loosened the ground connection to the battery the end of the cable attached to frame got loose? Or is it corroded and making poor contact? Just some thoughts...

I'm trying to remember if my 3410 has any safety switches on it. I don't think so, unless someone added one to yours.

Do what ucd said and check the fuse first--it is likely blown from a surge when you reconnected. Also make sure there's no corrosion on the cable at each end--it can get under the wire insulation and it will look clean. Your solenoid is actually another switch, though it is tripped by current sent to it after you turn the key. Inside there is a little gate that closes when juice gets there, which swings shut to make contact with the opposite post, completing that circuit. If they get too carbonized it will act as an insulator. Sometimes they just weld themselves open or shut. After your sure you checked every other possibility, give the solenoid a good rap with a hammer or a wrench. If it's a stuck gate sometimes you'll get lucky and it'll free up, though don't count on it.

Check wires to amp gauge, there is no fuse. While you have battery out check ignition switch. See if you have 12 volt to solenoid when switch is engaged

Forgot to mention tractor does have a neutral safety switch if still in start circuit. Could be problem there also. You did have it in neutral when you tried to start it didn't you? I sometimes fail to remember to do that since all my tractors don't have that as standard or the switch has been bypassed.

Forgot about that one, Greg! It was bypassed on mine before I bought it.
