mmischni
Hello all, I have had a hand-me-down Broadmoor for a number of years and finally convinced the wife to let me buy another tractor. I picked up a Landlord 990314 from about 1964 or so. I know little about the large frames, so now that I have it home and have been learning what to look for (wrong order, I know), I see it has been hard-used. Used to have a Hi-Lo! but now only has the rusty sun gears left and the outer gear is welded to what I hope is a sleeve and not the shaft. It also has a nice stout strap welded around the front frame right at the BGB box interface, so I assume there was cracking there. I will probably have to put a couple hundred dollars into just tires and belts alone! My dear wife probably didn't know what she was starting... First question, for the mid PTO, the parts manual has two options, for mfg # 568 and 569, and then for 496 and 497 and each has a different belt. Nothing is listed for the 314 mfg #. The PTO on my tractor looks close to what is in the 496/497 diagram, so is that the belt I need (154307) or is there another PTO for a 990314 that I haven't seen? For all I know this tractor has ben pieced together from others. Next question, the differential on these axles is quite interesting! Is there be a fair bit of slop in this setup, or is it ideally pretty tight? Mine allows a fair bit of rotation of one side before it turns the opposite wheel. I found an excellent resource here regarding the starter/generator units, but where shall I look for correct brushes for the starter? Also, is there anything that can/should be done to the contacts in the regulator? They have obvious discoloration/pitting, but I read that they are tungsten and very durable. And adjusted very finely. Don't want to file them if I should just leave them alone. Anyhow, I should probably break up all my questions over a couple of posts! I am a fan of this site and have gotten lots of great info without even asking anything over the last 3 years or so. Thanks in advance! HubbardRA
Matt, Check out this page: http://simpletractors.com/X-reference/ac_s_pg1.htm According to the page above, the combinations you are talking about did not exist. The 314 is said to be a manual start (pull cord, no starter). The varidrives did not come out till later in the series. Either you have several things mixed up, or your tractor is a mixture of parts from several different tractors. The page I listed above should help you sort out what you have. My son has a 64 Landlord, the 308 model. That is what got me interested, because what you were describing was quite different from his.
Chris727
If the pto is original it would be the same as on the early B-10, these are much different and use a differnet length belt than those used on the 496 and 497 tractors which are a later "square hood" tractor. Unfortunately I don't have my belt book here, its back home 100 miles away. If someone else doesn't get you the info by Saturday, I'll be home and get you the part#
gregc
PTO belt = part no. 1717393SM (old part no. 106390 = 36.1" HA belt) http://www.simplicitytechpubs.com/6767PRINT/PDF_files/TP_400_3626_00_LL_S.pdf
mmischni
I don't know if the electric start was an option or what, but my manual and the one Gregc sent both show my starting system for the 314. Now the rest of it, I wouldn't be suprised if there were parts from other tractors! Thanks Greg for the manual link. The one I had was for a combined Landlord series and didn't show PTO for the 314/308. Chris, I should have the right belt number now, thanks!
