Mower deck grease fittings

Recommended Posts

Michiganmobileman
Hello to all, Yesterday i flipped my 42 inch deck over (1690022) to grease the spindles and take off the blades for sharpening. One of the spindles is missing the grease fitting (makes ya wonder what the previous owner did for maintenance). Of the other two grease fittings that are there neither one seems to have the standard hex fitting to screw in or out (They appear rounded as near as my bad eyes can tell) and one of them spins a little when i twist it by hand. Before i clamp on my vise grips and get my self in deeper trouble---Are these grease fittings pressed in place into the spindle? Any comments or suggestions for replacing the missing one. Thanks to all, Happy spring. Greg

I have seen both; press fitted and threaded. I sounds like yours is press fit and broke off. You may be able to tap it and use threaded grease zerk. Jh

They screw into the arbors on my mowers. I currently have four decks. On many of these mowers, the bearings are totally sealed from the factory. The only reason for the grease fittings is to pack grease around the shaft to keep it from rusting so that it will come apart next time the bearings need replacement. I had one mower that did not have fittings, just had plugs in the holes.
