jrichason 0 Posted May 4, 2007 Hi, It seems like the hydro on the old 7116H is going? It started leaking about a year ago. I've tried to make sure it's kept full, but it has gotten low a couple times. Now it's starting to squeal when under load. Are the parts to rebuilt it available? Is this something an average Joe (or in my case John) can accomplish? Do you have any idea how much the parts cost? I recently bought another old 7116H to use, but I kind of hate to give up on the old girl. Thank you for any advice, John
RayS 80 Posted May 4, 2007 Where`s it leaking? Here one on ebay. And some times you can get them cheaper on there. http://cgi.ebay.com/Simplicity-Garden-Tractor-Hydrostatic-Transmission_W0QQitemZ190094780548QQihZ009QQcategoryZ82242QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
jrichason 0 Posted May 6, 2007 Hi, I'm not sure where it's leaking from. It seems like it might be where the two halves of the case come together. I guess the leaking doesn't worry me as much as the squealing does. It sounds like an old car when the power steering belt was going bad. Would the hydro belt squeal like that? Joe's Power has a 7116 ported hydrostatic transaxle, but when I sent them the ID of my tractor, they said it wouldn't work. Does anyone know why it wouldn't work in mine or how much work it would take to convert it. My machine's number is 1691382-1474. Here's the url to the transaxle...http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=009&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=190105273911&rd=1&rd=1 As always, thank you very much for your help! RayS 80 Posted May 6, 2007 It will work. You may have to whats in this diagram if the unit he has is not for a hydraulic lift but other than that it is the same. Rod has done this and may be of more help.
jrichason 0 Posted May 6, 2007 Thank you very much for the information. I recently bought another 7116H, but the guy did show up for transfer. So, I guess fixing my old one is a little more of a priority. Thanks again for the info! John
RayS 80 Posted May 6, 2007 I would look locally and also check out tractor swap meets in your area you may be able to find a complete parts tractor cheap. Your in Wisconsin they should be all over the place over there.
Mike 0 Posted May 7, 2007 I just replaced the seal between the hydro pump and the transmission on my 916h. It stopped the leaking problem I had. Simple job once you get the drive pulley off and inexpensive. Mike

I think it might be the same place as yours. I'm going to give it a try once I pick up the new mower. Thanks for the info! John
Mike 0 Posted May 8, 2007 I could never actually see where the leak was coming from, was more of a seeping. Some of the experienced members here pointed me in the direction of the hydro o ring.....good luck, Mike
jrichason 0 Posted June 9, 2007 Hi, I finally pulled the pump off my tractor. There was a lot of built up oil/dirt on the fan side of the pump so I don't know it's going to turn out to be the gasket between the pump and the transaxle or not. When you replaced your, did you use a new gasket, or just the gasket replacements stuff. My repair manual says to use the replacement stuff but I'm not sure I'm comfortable with that. Take care, John
