Simplicity Year of mfg

Hi Club members, I'm new to the club. I just acquired a old Simplicity Garden Tractor. It is supposed to be a Baron 3414S , I can't read the first three numbers on the MFG. tag , the last four numbers are 1078. I would like to know the year of this thing and any other info you might have. Where to get or download the Operators manual, parts manual etc. Thanks Larry NNW In.

Larry, good morning and welcome. Off the top of my head I'd say your 3414 was built some time in the early 70's, not sure of the exact year. One of the best ways to determine the year of manufacture is to look at the engine numbers and cross reference them on one of the briggs info sites(providing of course that it the original engine), since Simplicity models were sometimes built for several differnt years they weren't designated model years. The first three nunbers of your tractor serial number should be 990, so your complete serial number should be 9901078. There are links on this site and at the simple tractors site where you can get manuals for your tractor. Enjoy.

Thanks for the info. I entered 9901078 in the mfg spot for looking up manuals. It said no matches. Doesn't make sense??? Larry

Here is engine reference section to help you zero in what you have. http://www.simpletractors.com/parts/engine/engine_ref.htm Tractors of that era had three digit (978) model numbers. Then you prefaced it with 990, such as 990978 to look up manuals. The seven digit models (169XXXX) starting showing up after the "3400" series.

Hey Larwill! I have a 3410 Landlord, and it was built 1972, IIRC You're just a fer piece down the road from me, I'm in South Bend.

Welcome Larry. The MFG number for your tractor is 990979. The Model Year was 1973-74. The other numbers are the serial no.

Thanks Greg, I kept finding 979 also could't figured out what was going on. This is my first Simplicity, so I have to learn about them. Larry
