SmilinSam 4,157 Posted May 9, 2007 Oldest boy went to the bone yard for something yesterday and saved what was left of a 2012 with hydrolift , tiller, tiller drive, headlights, and weights from the crusher. I said what was left because they had used a claw to pick it up once with. Mashed the tiller up pretty bad and bent the shaft on the hydrolift cylinder. Crushed the steering wheel fenders and hood as well as the headlamps. What did have a potential value of around $1000 in parts was reduced to around $300- $4008 Better something than nothing though^
Roy 0 Posted May 9, 2007 Good save. Amazing what some people will throw away. Kudos to your boy.
HubbardRA 19 Posted May 9, 2007 Best save I ever got was the Baker cast iron fireplace insert. Caught the guy just as he was unhooking the straps to take it off his trailer. I convinced him to leave it strapped and unload it in my driveway, about 4 miles down the road. Only needed a new seal on the doors.
goatfarmer 817 Posted May 9, 2007 How much did they charge him? I saw an early Kenmore automatic washer and dryer at the local scrapyard, asked about buying them. They said "sure, $.40 a pound." Sounded OK, til I weighed them. Turns out they ended up wanting $112.00 for them, way more than I could have made selling parts.:(

That figures to about $.25 - $.30 per pound.
