dav 2 Posted May 12, 2007 i have the spare steering assembly almost apart from the b-12. it will go into the big ten that is slowly being overhauled. the shaft that sticks up for the gear to sit on is frozen inside the gear. the C clip moves but is too far down in the saddle/gear to remove from the shaft. can i drive the shaft thru the saddle from the bottom? the bottom end of the shaft is threaded and the top end has a screwdriver slot. i am hoping that the shaft is straight, no steps on it. thought i'd ask before i destroy a good part. John_RI 8 Posted May 12, 2007 Yes. It should come right out after taking the nut off and backing out the set screw. John
dav 2 Posted May 20, 2007 got it apart and cleaned up. put new bearings in it and did a paintjob on it. today it will go into the big ten. anyone know what kind of lube to put on the gear teeth, if any? i think most grease will hold dirt and crud in it and make a mess.
