Diagnosing a bad coil

Recommended Posts

I am getting no spark. The motor ran last weekend but suddenly died while mowing. I looked at the points and could see an intermittent and very weak spark while cranking over the motor. At the plug, I could see the same weak and intermittent spark. The spark became even more intermittent as I was looking at things and cranking the starter over again and again. Now it is gone. I installed an electronic ignition module, and there is still no spark. My question is: If you disconnected the coil wire from the points and condenser, and held it in your fingers while cranking over the motor, wouldn't you feel a shock if the coil was working? In my case there is nothing coming out of the coil. Thanks, Craig

Greg, Thanks for that link. It definitely points me in the right direction on how to further test my coil, which I will do tomorrow. Craig
