RipRat 0 Posted May 13, 2007 Guys, My brother called me yesterday looking for advise. He has a Simplicity 3008 that we repowered with a Briggs 252107-062104-88021211 from a Craftsman lawn tractor. He needs a new breather for the engine and went to a Briggs dealer and was told it was not available? Based on the date code the engine is only a 1988!!! I looked again a the block and the breather (and the block) look identical to the 191701 block from the Broadmoor 728 that I just finished rebuilding. I bought a breather from my favorite Simplicity dealer for this 30 year old block and they had it in stock! To me the breather from my engine looks identical to the one for hit (that is no longer available) - Can I interchange these? If I give him my part number, can he just use a breather for my engine? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

gregc 3 Posted May 13, 2007 If the engine is a 252701 instead of the 252107 that you listed the breather is still available. Briggs part #495735 BREATHER ASSEMBLY.
PatRarick 1 Posted May 13, 2007 I believe the engine should be a 252707. Greg is correct on the part number and it's availability. As to interchanging, if the breathers look identical it shouldn't be a problem but you may have to switch breather hoses. On the aluminum block L-heads, there are mainly two breathers. 5hp small block and smaller engines use one size, and 5hp big blocks and larger use another size. Differences among either size would be the location of the hole for the breather hose, and on big block engines equipped with vacuum operated fuel pumps, there may be a provision for the pump's vacuum source. Again, if the breathers look identical, including that the hole for the breather hose is in the same location, the breather will be interchangeable. Identical breathers may have different part numbers, but that is not due to any difference in the breather itself. A new breather hose is included with the new breather. There are differences in breather hoses for certain engine and carb combinations. It is the difference in the included breather hose that accounts for the different part number.
