firefoxz1 4 Posted May 13, 2007 Today's project: Took the engine from Elon out of the donor half of a tractor, cleaned and inspected it, installed it in the 3410H that's been sitting here engine-less for about three years. Was surprised to find a new coil under the cover. Fired up within a couple cranks:D:D. ehertzfeld 1 Posted May 13, 2007 Heee I guess I forgot to tell you I put a new coil in!:D I'm glad everything worked out well for you.
firefoxz1 4 Posted May 13, 2007 If you did I forgot completelyB). No smoke at all so far:D:D. Was just out driving it around some more. Now I need to grease it and install the deck and maybe swap out the hoods?.
firefoxz1 4 Posted May 14, 2007 Installed the deck today and mowed. I rebuilt the deck when I first got it and have used it on another mower. The Vickers free wheels some. I know I used this mower before the engine got tore down and it was great, main reason I decided to find another engine. What to you think happened from it sitting, dry seals? I am no hydro expert. D-17_Dave 12 Posted May 15, 2007 Not sure when you say it free wheels. But some things to check are good tension on the drive belt. Some water may have accumulated in the oil so changing the oil and cleaning the filter would be a good place to start. Check to see that there isn't any slop in the hydro linkage. You may have some wear in the rear differential.
firefoxz1 4 Posted May 15, 2007 Dave when mowing down hill it would seem like it came out of gear and then back in again. I have a sunstrand in a 7112H that goes faster down hill than up and am used to that but this actually feels like it was coasting down the hill at times. Another thing it actually worked better (held back more)on the steeper parts than the almost flat section at the bottom.
Roy 0 Posted May 15, 2007 Thom, Do you have the spring in the control linkage blocked???? I blocked the spring on my Sovereign to minimize/eliminate "runaway" downhill. There are pictures of what I did somewhere if you do a site search.
firefoxz1 4 Posted May 16, 2007 I did no work to this beside installing the other engine and I don't remembering it doing this before, although that was over three years ago. I had a thought last night I have check out. The throttle linkage maybe playing a role in this situation. Some or most of it maybe the engine that is not holding back as it should and not so much the hydro. The main concern I had was the complete freewheeling feeling like it was completely out of gear at times. I may change the fluid and hopefully that gets better with use. MPH 12 Posted May 16, 2007 Don't have enough running time on the 3314, my only hydro, to have any ideas for you Thom but that sure is a nice looking 3410. Is that a store bought cloth seat cover on there?
Tacey 0 Posted May 16, 2007 I sold my 3410 3-speed last month, and I miss it already. It's just not right for a guy to have only two tractors. Deprived. Tacey
firefoxz1 4 Posted May 16, 2007 Marty, It is canvas. I think he had the (canvas/tarp maker) place down the road make it? All I know is it doesn't look bad and should hold up for a long time, but sitting on it to mow is a little rough. It's time to clean and condition it and maybe it will become softer again. Tacey: I am not definitly not deprived when it come to tractors now.
MPH 12 Posted May 16, 2007 Sounds like you could get saddle sore on that Thom, think I'll stick with my sweatshirt seat covers. Spent about an hour on the Landlord today plowing and about an hour on the 725 tilling, The vinal on the 725 got a bit sweaty before I was done. If the one I cut to fit holds up on the 3314 think that'll be my seat plan for all of them.
HubbardRA 19 Posted May 17, 2007 Tacey, Ryan will not let you have that 3410 back. He now has a JohnnyBucket for it that came from a Cub Cadet. I am supposed to help him get a mount set up for the 3410 to use the JohnnyBucket. We will probably do this Memorial Day weekend. We are also going to fix the lift arm on the blade so it won't hit the tractor frame. Ryan loves that tractor. He sold his Murray two days after he got home with this Simplicity. He is planning several upgrades, whenever he can convince Mama to let him buy the items.:D
Roy 0 Posted May 17, 2007 Rod, Where does Ryan live?
HubbardRA 19 Posted May 17, 2007 Roy, 6 miles from the base, on Rt 218 toward Colonial Beach. 10 Minutes from work. Numbers may be off a little, just guesses. Next time you come up, I'll see if I can get him to come to breakfast with us. Like Mary and Charles, Ryan and his wife also have a very young child, which keeps him close to home.
