flamethrowing yeoman

my yeoman is throwing flames from the exhaust tried adjusting carb no help the muffler is getting cherry red runs and idles fine anything else to look for or should I try rebuilding the carb

Check your point gap and the condensor. Could also be a very lean condition. If you put the choke on, does it help things?

If you're throwing flames out the exhaust (geez, I hope this is only visible in dim light!) and they are orange instead of blue, I'm thinking you're sending excess gas out the exhaust. Blue "flames" out of the exhaust and red hot muffler can happen because of mix to lean. Timing or valves, primarily because a single cylinder engine won't run with the mix that rich. I've seen a just rebuilt V8 just about melt the cast iron exhaust manifold although it ran half-way well because the shop had goofed the valve timing. So look at ignition timing first, as Paul says. What happened just BEFORE this started?
