john-holcomb 0 Posted May 14, 2007 Was mowing and every thing was fine, backed the tractor up and shifted the shuttle to foward. The tractro started to move slowed down stopped and the belt started to smoke. Tried reverse again and its fine foward the same thing happened. I took it to the shop and put it on blocks, everything looks fine but even with no load the wheels turn about 4 times and lock up. Any Idea on where to look first? Is it in the shuttle or the tranny? Any thoughts Please. thanks John
HubbardRA 19 Posted May 14, 2007 John, first thing I would check is to make sure that the reverse brake band is fully releasing. It cannot run forward if that is holding the outside of the planetary unit.
john-holcomb 0 Posted May 16, 2007 Thanks for the tip Rod, and while the brake band and drum are pretty worn they do work. It looks as if the culprit is the idler pulley on the small belt. It is frozen up solid and has caused the belt to strech and is ruined. JW
