I am at home now & don't have a reference but I thought the drive shaft across the rear was moveable fore & aft on each end. If my memory fails me it won't be the first time- nor the last!!! Bill Klein

Is the chain jumping off? Are the shaft bearings okay? Auger bearings? Sometimes you can compensate for worn sprockets by using an offset (1/2) link.
