2110 gas tank issue (updated)

Recommended Posts

2110 gas tank, I find I run out of gas with about an inch and a half still in the tank. This isn't a big tank anyway. Anyone else faced this or have an (educated) guess? -Don

I think your screen at the bottom of the tank is clogged. I usually remove the screen and place a clear in-line filter and an in-line fuel shut off. jh

The shut off valve maybe tighten in to far. If you are taking it out to ck screen you may want to put a thin nut on it and then tighten it in part way and tighten nut to secure.

Is it possible that the tank is dented upward, at the fuel line location? My 2110 will drain the tank when it's thirsty!

How is the fuel line run? It is gravity feed and will only drain as low as the highest point in the fuel line.

answers to some good questions: a) no fuel shut off valve. a couple of 90 els of what must be 1/8" IPT, the hose, new fuel filter and to carb. shut off is on the to-do list but no leaking to deal with. b) no dents on the bottom. c) fuel line runs from below tank to carb, looping down but never getting as high as the tank. d) can't see in to see if there is a screen in the tank still. I'll check it next time it's empty. The screen idea does make sense with the symptoms, and this tank was pretty bad inside when I got it. I've flushed it but not removed it (yet). Q: if I find a screen in there can I just knock it off with a screwdriver or something? How do you remove the screen? I'm off to go burn some gas tilling so I can check out the screen. Tough job but someone has to do it. :D I'll let you know what I find. I don't see how I can get a picture of the screen, though. -Don

To remove the screen, I usually drain the tank, remove the tank, and then disassemble the fittings. Once the fittings are removed I cut off the screen. I then place new fuel line, shut off, and filter. I place the filter between the shut off and the carb. It makes changing the filter easier. jh

After removing the fuel line hose to keep dirt from the carb just reach in with a 45 degree long needle nose pliers and rip it off, then flush.
