SteveP 0 Posted May 23, 2007 Trying to rototil my new garden with my new 3416 (16 hp single Briggs) but it has so much blow by that its fouling the plug in a couple of minutes. Maybe 40 wt and some oil treatment would help temporarily. Anyway I took the tiller off and put it on the AC 712H (12 hp Kohler). Tilled like a champ but when I pulled it into the shed it was hemorrhaging oil. Not sure where it's coming from but maybe the seal between the sump and block? I know one thing for sure, I like the Hydro better than the shuttle.
D-17_Dave 12 Posted May 23, 2007 Check to see if the fuel pump came loose on the block before getting too excited about your Kohler. As for the 16 Briggs. Pull the piston and check for broken rings. I've seen several 16's that had broken rings and if alowed to run on they will score the cylinder badly or break the piston.
HubbardRA 19 Posted May 23, 2007 Before pulling the engine apart, check the crankcase breather. If the diaphram is broken, rusted, or just fell off, the engine will suck in oil from the crankcase, especially under heavy loads. If this is OK, then do as Dave said.
