Landlord Steering

Question: Is the steering on a 7010 the same as a '64 Landlord 990314? The steering is very sloppy on my Landlord, and I have found an assembly from a 7010 I can get, but looking at photos I cannot tell if it is the same.

No, nor even directly with the later model foot-draggers -- the 990314 was the last of the tractors that used the round, cast-iron steering gear. To use the steering gear from the Landlord 101 (one year newer), you'd have to also change out the steering shaft... The 990314 would have the same steering gear as a Model 725, for example....

It can be done but it's not a quick job. I swapped the gears on my 990314 with the newer style. I swapped out everything from the steering wheel shaft down to the gears. The hardest part was getting the arm off the bottom of the gears (under the tractor.) I ended up using a pickle fork for tie rods to get off. Changing the parts out did make all the difference in the world as far as getting rid of the sloppiness. On mine the big gear's shaft was too badly worn to repair and couldn't find good replacement parts. Kraig
