New-to-me pick-up Pick-up.

This is my new-to-me pick-up for getting those needed pick-up items and maybe a tractor getter also. 4cyl 5-spd 2wd. Purchased this with a bad motor at a bargain price and installed a used motor with 89k on it. It's from NC and basicly not a spec of rust on it and only a few little dings. Came with everything you see , a bed liner under the cover and a new exhaust including the convertor. This is the reason I haven't had any tractor time the last two weeks. heres my old version of yours. 1982 4cyl 5 speed. i payed $100 for it with a bad engine. california truck. they get great gas milage. i have hauled 2 tractors in the trailer and 1 in the truck bed along with accessory's . its quite a load but it does just fine if you dont try and push it. if you live in snow country put a fiberglass cap and a little weight on the back and it will go anywhere threw the snow with that 5 spd. have fun with it. i love driving mine. Perry, I'm hoping for decent MPG's but will definitly be better than my 86' GMC K1500. That 82' looks very good for it's age.

Thom, I had a 1997 S10 for 3 years. LOVED the heck out of that truck. Handles good, good gas mileage (28mpg), good response. But this was with a v6 Vortec engine. I learned the hard way that the rear window breaks EASILY. Almost like a house window. Keep that in mind. Also, the winters in New York ate the he** out of the frame also, the front metal part of the bumper. It helped to wash the under carriage often during the winter. Also watch the corner panels on the cab. They rust faster than you can say "dang". Congrats again, it's a super truck. :)

I had the same trouble here in the Garden State with my 95 S10. 165,000 miles, the drivetrain was great, but the "Rust Termites" ate the frame like starving relatives at Thanksgiving! Tailgates tend to go also.

Tom, Ah, yes, I forgot about that. Mine rusted out to the point that it fell off. Had to throw it away in the trash. But strangely enough, the rest of the body remained intact with the exception of rust on one of the cab corners. It took just one winter to go from a speck of rust to a fist sized hole. Thom, I would strongly suggest to keep up with the touching up if you plan to keep that truck for a while. It's a great truck. :)

  • 2 weeks later...
First MPG results. Over the first three hundred miles I put on the truck (half driving local to and from work, half a little highway trip) I averaged 28.5 mpg. I am sure this is better than the Mercury Topaz I've been using as my everyday driver and can haul things now. Just figured I would make a little update. I am very pleased so far8D:D.

I have one of those in the GMC '88 version sitting on my Driveway. Hope to find someone could use it in the near future. But I never got over 22 mpg in the 140,000 miles I drove it.
