npalen Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 ALLIS 720/PowerMax I'm getting an "on-and-off-again" rattle that I'm guessing is coming from the PTO driveshaft between the engine and the PTO clutch. Haven't had time to investigate yet but wondering if anyone's experienced this and a possible solution. Seems like something might be out of balance. Thanks Nelson
JP Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 A couple things can cause this.... Yoke bushings, Fiber disk, bearings or the chain link not being taped. JP
RBE17 Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 Nelson, I wish I had this problem, but my rear pto shaft / clutch assy are MIA. Steve.
eagle5473 Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 I had a vibration as well, and just disconnected the rear PTO drive shaft, as I dont currently have a use for it your situation may be different
npalen Posted July 30, 2007 Author Posted July 30, 2007 Thanks guys, I'll pull the cover this evening, take a look and report back. All feedback is appeciated.
npalen Posted July 31, 2007 Author Posted July 31, 2007 The rattle stops when the clutch is depressed so I'm now thinking it's a bad bearing or sheave driving the hydro. I don't normally use the clutch (belt tightener) and didn't realize the noise stopped when doing so. What else might be bad in the drive ahead of the hydro? Comments?
npalen Posted August 7, 2007 Author Posted August 7, 2007 Would anyone have the part nos. for the pivot bushings for the tightener and the fiber disc as well as a source? I assume the ball bearings can be purchased locally. Haven't opened it up yet but would like to have the parts on hand when I do. Thanks Nelson
npalen Posted August 8, 2007 Author Posted August 8, 2007 Or is someone can give me the mfg. number for a Powermax, I can look up the manual here. Thanks Nelson
RedbarnRick Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 Here's a 4040 manual http://www.simplicitytechpubs.com/6767PRINT/PDF_files/TP_400_0391_02_GT_S.pdf
UCD Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 Rick on your file name delete the name off from the end and if the second number past tp is a 3 digit number 390 insert a 0 zero making it a 4 digit number 0390 IE the edited link in your above post
npalen Posted August 9, 2007 Author Posted August 9, 2007 Would anyone happen to have a cross reference between PowerMax and Allis on identical parts?
UCD Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 They are the same tractors. There is a few differences between the model numbers 990705 Simplicity 4040 = 2020185 Allis Chalmers 616 16hp. Onan 990953 Simplicity 4041 = 2020303 Allis Chalmers 620 20hp. Onan 990954 Simplicity 4041 = 2020304 Allis Chalmers 620 20hp. Onan 1690072 Simplicity 9020 = 1690073 Allis Chalmers 720 20hp. Onan 1690230 Simplicity 9020 = 1690231 Allis Chalmers 720 20hp. Onan 1690283 Simplicity 9020 = 1690288 Allis Chalmers 720 20hp. Onan The best way to find the differences in parts would be to download the parts manuals and check for differences in part numbers.
npalen Posted August 9, 2007 Author Posted August 9, 2007 Any idea where I might find the Allis 720 manual?
gregc Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 PARTS MANUAL - Model 720 http://www.simplicitytechpubs.com/6767PRINT/PDF_files/TP_400_3795_00_XX_A.pdf
UCD Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 You can download manuals on the main page by typing the MFG# into the Search for Manuals at Simplicity Mfg. Box in the upper right corner or at this site. http://www.simplicitytechpubs.com/techpubsearch.php#start
