MPH
Mowed off my new clover/barley field yesterday with the sickle mower Had a lot of trouble with it bunching up on both ends of the bar then dragging along making clumps. Would lay back fine for a ways, then build up til I stopped and cleaned it off. Varying ground speed didn't seem to help any, tried first gear at about 1/4 trottle and 2nd gear, got clumps either way. As I wasn't having much fun I didn't stop for any pictures while doing it so heres a pic of the length of stuff I was mowing, maybe too tall for these little guys? KenK
Do you have the swathboard on?I don't run mine with the board on but I only use mine a little on the ditches.I believe the board should throw the material you are cutting in far enough so the shoe does'nt bunch up.It Is supposed to leave a clean area for the shoe to ride on.Mine doe'snt bunch on the far end but does sometimes on the near end under the shoe. MPH
I don't have an actual swathboard. I tried at first with about a 2 foot rod bolted to the metal bracket part of the swath board which seemed to work good on stuff under a foot tall. In the taller thicker stuff it just pliled on top of it. Took it off to no avail.
msiebern
Hey Marty: If you need or want a swath board, I think Roy had his input on the following. http://www.simpletractors.com/do_it/sicklebar_swathboard.htm
