scrowba Posted September 2, 2007 Posted September 2, 2007 Well, we made the decision to keep the 4040 but must get the engine in better condition. We discussed replacing the Onan with a Honda, but wow..a big cost involved with that. Can anyone give me an idea of what it should cost to have the CCKA 16 1/2 Onan rebuilt at a small engine shop? Thanks :o)
olcowhand Posted September 2, 2007 Posted September 2, 2007 At a shop....a LOT! Depends on what parts & machining it'll need, but minimum of $500 most likely, on up to max of $800+. I could never afford my garden tractor hobby if I didn't do all my own work.
olcowhand Posted September 2, 2007 Posted September 2, 2007 Oh, BTW, maybe it will be cost prohibitive, so you can always give me a call.....I'll be glad to take that 4040 off your hands! :D You may find it cheaper to repower with a newer engine, but that old engine is a tough bird!
JP Posted September 2, 2007 Posted September 2, 2007 Dan's not too far from the mark.... Usually, the rebuilt Onan's take a LOT to kill them off when done over. It amazes me that most I get are on their STD piston size after 20 plus years! JP
