richp 0 Posted September 6, 2007 On my 7119 and 4040, the hydro lift valve doesn't have a power beyond port but does have a spot for it along with casting marks labeling it as PBY. I wonder if this port can be drilled and tapped for use. What do you guys think?
DMedal 1 Posted September 6, 2007 well, I'd want to have a line on a spare valve before I started. Are you a bold machinist type? *smile*
D-17_Dave 12 Posted September 6, 2007 Often a PBY section of a valve has a port but it also has an insert that helps direct the flow under pressure into this sectionof the valve body. IMO you would be dissapointed in the results of going into the valve yourself.
richp 0 Posted September 7, 2007 Dave, if I found a 2 spool valve from a newer powrmax, would it bolt right up to my 4040?
D-17_Dave 12 Posted September 8, 2007 Yes. This is a common modification on these tractors. But you'll need more hardware to complete the swap and be satisfied. You'll need both lift levers and the corosponding linkages. You'll also need the metal line goint to the front that plumb into the extra ports of the 2 spool valve. You'll need all this to make the 4040 like the later model tractors.
richp 0 Posted September 9, 2007 Thanks guys. I had to replace the float, as this one had cracked pucks and they were hitting the center of the carb. Can't believe how expensive Onan parts are.
