what colors and where

I just bought an old garden tractor at an aution that I want to restore. The tractor is actually a Homelite T-13 ID #1690050 I cross referenced it to a Simplicity 7013S and the engine numbers match the tractor ID #1690232 1977. So thats what Im going to paint it as, I mean who wants a Homolite anyway? The problem is Im not sure what colors to paint where or even what the paint codes are. I dont know what color the engine is supposed to be either, Ive seen black ones and orange ones the original color from Briggs was actually copper I think. Does anyone have a detailed picture of a factory original? Or does anyone know for sure where the different colors go and the paint codes?

Ok, so where do I find a collector? If I paint it blue can I still be part of your "Orange Tractors Club"? How much more is it worth as a Homelite than a Simplicity?

Value has in part to do with rarity, there are less of the Homelite T series than their orange brothers. There are several of us lurking here with blue tractors in our collections. I wouldn't dream of painting my T16H orange. Trick is to have the right BRAND of blue tractor! (others may disagree). But as Kent said, it is your tractor, you can paint it any color you wish. -Don

Welcome to the club Justin. Blue is a fine color if it is a homelite. Just watch out bringing a green tractor in here.:D:D As far as what color to get for paint Look in a place on the tractor that has been out of the weather (under the hood, or seat pan) and have a paint store match it. If you do a search on homelite you will find some info and users that can give you better ideas than I can. George

My AC713S is partly a T13 The tranny and the engine are from a T13. Since I am partial to the AC tractors, It was put back together as an AC. I didn't get the Homelite hood, but I had the hood from an AC710, so it became an AC713S. I painted my engine black, with an orange shroud. I painted the tranny black. The rest of the tractor is orange, except for the cream color wheels and the black grille.

Bad Bowtie, there are lots of people out there who want Homelites. I for one would like to have one of the ones made by AC. It is not like there is a huge fan club for Homelites but for the discerning collector they are something special in a sea of orange. I purchased a 1974 Baron 3414s 13hp (many think they are 14hp) which is essentially the same as your T-13 except they are as common as dirt. Mine had a very bad "Farmall Red" paint job when I got it

so I repainted it Orange since I am an AC fan from birth. I love the look of the tractor but I kinda regret I didn't paint the hood cream, and badge it back to a Baron-S.

No matter what color I paint it, it will always be a 1974 Simplicity Baron 3414S.

Have a look on the Simple Tractors home page and click on Homelite and you will see two paint versions of the T116, both of which are quite sharp.

Send an email or PM to PeppyDan (Dan Poeppleman). He has a beautiful Homelite that he restored to near-mint condition and would probably gladly tell you what paint he used and where he got it. He'd probably also enjoy telling you about his tractor. I've met him several times as we only live a few miles apart, and he loves to share info and stories... DaveM

Thanks alot for all the replies....youve talked me into keeping it original. Some exciting information I came up with, which some of you already know is that the original engine thats in it is worth about $800, I only paid $35 for the whole tractor!!! Can anyone give me an idea about how much the whole package is worth in excellent restored condition with the original "numbers matching" engine? Also the whole reason behind painting the machine orange was for the attachments to match. Im sure they didnt make blue attachments for the Homelites....did they? I dont have any attachments yet but would like to get some for it and it would look kind of silly pulling orange attachments around with a blue tractor, ya know.

I remember seeing a blue Wards twin 20 tractor the size of a Powrmax. Thing looked awsome. It might have been D17 Dave's tractor. Maybe I'll paint my 4040 that way.

So is the Homelite blue the same shade as Ford blue? If my history serves me correctly after Simplicity built Homelites they were bought out by Jacobsen. Then later by Ford...or Jacobsen was owned by Ford not sure.

Did some of the Homelites have white attachments? Mine has a white deck and blower, I'm pretty sure that it is original paint. complete with rust. -don

I've seen only three AC built Homelites, and four Simplicity built Homelites. My experience has been that the Allis built tractors had blue attachments and the Simplicity built tractors had white attachments. Again, this is only from what I'VE seen. It may not always be the case.

I had never thought about that! Now that you mention it both my Allis built tractors had blue mower decks and my Simplicity built Homelites had white decks(well one actually had a orange deck so I will guess that's no original)lol! Dan

Both my Ac builts T12 & T16 parts machine have blue decks. My 42" deck is for sale, needs some arbors & the hood, seat pan & various parts from the T16 are also avail.

For this being an "Orange Tractors Club", I see a lot of yellow tractors in the Gallery. ;) As far as "What's it worth?", right now I'd say the values are flat, maybe even down a bit, from their peak (at least on eBay). I'm the only one around here who over-pays for old tractors. Good luck with your new machine/project. Tacey Oh, and if you want to draw attention to your tractor, go ahead and paint "Homolite" on it's side.

Here is a picture of the 713S that I built using the engine, tranny, and frame from a T13. The hood was from an AC so I painted it as an AC 713S, as I said in the earlier post. If you look closely, you will see several things about this tractor which are custom made and definitely not stock.

Those are some great looking machines! I hope my collection looks that good someday. Ive shoved the T-13 project aside for now though, I have several walk behinds to restore and a Massey MF12. I am still keeping my eye out for parts. I need a seat and headlights for the T-13 as well as for a Simplicity Landlord 3310V I recently picked up at an auction.
