wumby 0 Posted October 6, 2007 I'm replacing the trans in my AC312 with one that appears to be the same from an unknown model tractor. This tractor is a 3 speed with a variable drive. Do I need to split the case to change this shaft from my 312 to the replacement trans? This is the replacement trans. Also What is this square headed set screw for ? Do I need to remove it to get the wheel hub off the old axle? Thanks for the help. Mike
dav 2 Posted October 6, 2007 that 'square set screw' is the keyway to keep the axle and hub turning together. on the back side of the hub should be two screws that lock the hub to the axle. they may have jamb nuts on them to keep them from working loose. with the screws completely removed, i had one hub slide right off the axle. the only other one i have had to remove took a substantial amount of pounding with a hammer and brass drift. MikeES 448 Posted October 7, 2007 Mike, yes you will need to split the case and swap input shafts on the transmission. They swap with no problems.
