kevindb85 0 Posted October 30, 2007 I have a 1986/87 Sunstar with the Magnum 20 engine. I know that this engine is no longer available, though some parts are. right now it sounds great, was well taken care of, and I am replacing the ignition module.{just because the wires are extremely cracked from heat}Is there anything in particular that goes wrong with these engines? I want this to last a long time because re-power kits are :O $ I already have the owners and service manual for it. It also states that you need to run 5w30, or 10w30 in the winter, and MUST use straight 30 weight above 40 degrees. anyone have any coments or suggestions? Thanks for any input. Ronald Hribar 86 Posted October 30, 2007 Keep plenty of oil in it. Also would put fuel shut off valve in gas line. It may not be a problem with the Sunstar, but in my 7117 , I have had the cylinders and crankcase fill up with gas.
kevindb85 0 Posted October 30, 2007 Ron, thanks for the advice. I always keep a close watch on my oil, so no problem there. I will put shut off valve in, that's a good idea.
dano 0 Posted October 30, 2007 I have the same tractor that I bought new and have run 30wt oil in the summer and 10w30 in the winter with no problems. Parts are readily available. Keep the cooling fins clean. How many hours on your Sunstar?
kevindb85 0 Posted October 30, 2007 Has 1300 hours, but runs perfect.
